The idea for the addition is based on the gentrification of the area, thanks to artists and artisans who came here in the ninties and enhanced the genius loci.

 

In plan, infact, the two floors added aren’t just residential but they host a workshop- gallery space to provide more creativity freedom to the commercial ground floor. In this way the artist/artisan can connect the shop at the ground floor with a workshop- gallery in the addition floors and expand the sense of community along the entire building. In the elevation the main structure and verticality of the original project is underlined by the light structure of the addition. This doesn’t have the same level of decor of the existing, but simply emphatises it with clean arches that follow the same pace.

 

Also the project aims to reinsert the original state of the land with a green layer that acts as a cushion between the existing building and the new one. The green layer helps, also, to bring back to life the original beautiful green colour of the building.

 

Finally the internal yard of the addition plays a little more with the curve angles that are present in the exterior elevations, but disapear in the interior. Therefore is shaped as a circular wave that hugs the whole yard.
