ST. ALPHONSA CATHEDRAL

Restoration of St. Alphonsa Cathedral (St. Ignatius R.C. Church), a Grade II* listed building, focusing on preserving its delicate interiors and addressing critical roof deterioration.

St. Alphonsa Cathedral, formerly St. Ignatius R.C. Church, is a Grade II listed building* and Presbytery that gained significance when it was ceded to the Syro-Malabar Eparchy of Great Britain, becoming its Cathedral.

The building’s fabric, particularly the interiors, is delicate and damaged, reflecting years of limited maintenance. The roof structures are in poor condition, making their restoration a top priority to protect both the building and its historic interiors.

As Project Leader, I coordinated the restoration strategy, overseeing condition assessment, planning interventions, and proposing methods to preserve the heritage while addressing structural vulnerabilities. The work ensures the longevity of the Cathedral and its continued role as a vital religious and cultural landmark.
