A HOUSE FOR...

Born from a painting, this project transforms a dream into architecture. Inspired by Van Gogh’s The Gardener, the design becomes a lighthouse in the hills, connecting the soul to nature and light.

This project begins as a painting, blossoming into architecture. After all, isn’t architecture art translated into space? The aim is to bring dreams and internal visions into physical form, giving shape to what often remains trapped within us.

The design draws inspiration from Van Gogh, a master of expressing inner life through color, even amid greyness. The owner of the dwelling, The Gardener (a subject from Van Gogh’s asylum period), lives amidst the natural fields of the Netherlands, far from city noise. His home acts as a lighthouse on the hills, guiding travelers while offering a space to connect with the surrounding landscape.

A spiral staircase symbolically bridges the earth and sky, allowing observation of both the ground and the horizon. Sunflower Lower, another reference to Van Gogh, inspires the idea that even the simplest elements can become profound, unique spaces — where the soul reconnects with nature and light.

The project translates the painter’s vision and poetry into spatial experience, creating a place where architecture, nature, and dreams converge. COMPETITION BY OPENGAP
